103. Saturday, April 12th

Good morning folks, Noah here—probably bringing you our last uphill report of the season. Feels strange to say that with snow falling outside my window. Keeping with the spring mood, Joe and I planned for a 6:30 am start, which quickly turned into 6:45 when I inevitably was scrambling for my gear.
There’s a funny thing about snow—it’s rarely the same. Sure, we call it all by the same name, but snow has moods, textures, temperatures, and tells. The kind that falls in April doesn’t feel like the kind that falls in January, even if it looks the same on a webcam. Today was the kind of snow that just didn’t seem to fit. It had me thinking of November—lots of bamboo on the trail, glimpses of ledge poking through the thin spots, and that familiar promise: this is just the start. While I don’t expect it to last long, it’s a good sign that the burnout of a busy ski season hasn’t diminished my joy for the sport. And after a few months of biking and summer adventure, that first snowfall will bring the same excitement and promise of winter.
