68. Friday, February 16th

TGIS: Thank goodness it snowed. ❄️ Happy Friday, Un-Okemo's! It's Abby with your morning report, brought to you by Joe Karl with @raveisokemo. We woke up to freshies in the village with about 3 to 4 inches on the mountain. February has been a bit dry with snowfall, so I'm a very happy snow bunny today. 🐰

Okemo's Trail Sign Auction is happening today at NOON! Read below for details.

New snow is a great way to kick-off President's Week with vacationers heading to the slopes. Even just a few inches goes a long way when you have Okemo's grooming team perfecting the conditions. 👏

Joe's morning hike was something out of a Hallmark movie: a snow-covered sleepy ski town rests while the town's real estate agent summits Okemo Mountain in a clouded, quiet, snowy morning. 🎬

Today's Quick Facts:

🏔️ Trail Count: 121/122

🚡 Lift Count: 14/20

Taking the approved uphill route via Arrow to Sapphire, Joe found pockets of powder everywhere. We had decent winds last night and this morning has been blustery, so the light powder is getting tossed around up there. The summit lifts are also running at a slower speed due to winds at the summit. 🐌

Today's conditions are going to be wind-packed powder surfaces with hard pack beneath. Don't expect a powder day, rather a powder-ish day due to the wind. 🌬️ I'd recommend finding lines on the edges of trails where the snow gets pushed, or even the glades because the trees will collect those freshies.

Pro Tip: While you're on your Okemo vacation, support our local businesses! Grab some groceries at Singleton's, shop for gifts at Tygart Trading Post, play at GameBird, drink at Main+Mountain, tune your skis at The Boot Pro, and dine at Stemwinder.

Prepare for a busy weekend & week here at Okemo thanks to the new snow and vacation time on the horizon. 🏝️ Here are some of my favorite tips to navigate busy times as a seasoned local:

  • Pack your own lunch and skip the cafeteria line

  • SouthFace, Morning Star, and Solitude typically have lower lift lines

  • Be strategic about your trail choice to NOT end up at the Sunburst

  • Pack those patient pants

  • Go with the flow; it's not that serious

  • Park at Jackson Gore for a less-hectic environment

  • Get in line at 7:45 a.m. for first chair at 8 a.m.

  • Eat at off-peak hours and ski during lunchtime for less crowded trails

That being said, Okemo has done a great job managing crowds this year, better than ever in my experience. Download the Epic App to track lift wait times, too!

🪧 Okemo is having a Trail Sign Auction! All proceeds from the sale go to the EpicPromise Employee Fund. This fund distributed 10’s of thousands of dollars to their staff in the aftermath of the flood. Online Auction Opens: Friday, February 16, 2024 @ 12pm EST. Online Auction Closes: Saturday, February 17, 2024 @ 12pm EST.
