Snow days always feel better on a Friday! ❄️ This is Abby with your Fridaylicious update. Okemo picked up about 1-2 inches of freshies early this morning before the lifts started spinning. Today's snow reporter is the talented photographer, Riley Karl, (follow @rileykarlphotography). She hiked up to the summit and enjoyed powdery turns before the public rolled in. 👏
As for me, I'm starting my weekend early with a routine maintenance massage & cupping at Body + Breath in Springfield this afternoon. A fun fact you may not know about me is that I had heart surgery when I was a toddler, leaving me with uncomfortable scar tissue in my adult years. ❤️🩹 I highly recommend booking a massage with Emily, she fixes me right up. 😌 Following that, I'll be going to the Springfield Cinema to see the new, highly discussed, and somewhat hated Madame Web. 🎬 I'm a sucker for bad movies, but I'll see anything Marvel releases.
You probably don't care what I'm doing today, I'm just bored and have no co-workers to chat with.... so now let's get back to the snow report, shall we? ⬇️😂
Morning, happy FriYAY! It's your local ski instructor/photographer Riley Karl, with the snow report today. 👋 When I arrived at the mountain at about 6:25 a.m., the snow was really coming down in huge chunky flakes and the temp was 31 degrees. When I reached the top of the Black Ridge Triple, the snowfall started to thin a bit more and continued to thin as I hiked. By the time I got to the top at 7:40 a.m., it stopped snowing. 🛑 My unofficial calculation is about 1.5 inches of accumulation.
Today's Quick Facts:
🏔️ Trail Count: 121/122
🚡 Lift Count: 17/20
The skiing conditions were... interesting. That 1.5 inches was kinda sticky, especially towards the bottom, which made turning feel different. 🍚 Now keep in mind, I was skiing through this snow as first tracks, so the more it gets tracked out, the less drag there will be from the sticky fresh snow. 👍 Today's temp is on the rise, so hopefully, it's an amazing slush day out there today!
Pro Tip: Stretch before & after hitting the slopes. Just do it. Ok?
You know how I mentioned that Cross Country Skiing is my new hobby? 🎉 Well, it could be yours too by purchasing XC or Backcountry gear from The Boot Pro! Head into the shop and ask one of their pros to help you out - tell them Abby sent you. 😉
Want to go see a comedy show? 🎭 Comedy Night with Raanan Hershberg is at the Okemo Base Lodge tomorrow night, Saturday the 24th! You can still purchase tickets to support OMARA - click here. Hosted by William Raveis Vermont Properties.
There is a USASA Halfpipe Event on Sunday 2/25 for Snowboarding and Freeski! 📣 Our friends at Okemo Mountain School will have several students competing! You can watch the competition in the dedicated viewing areas.
Next week is the U16 States on Chief from Tuesday 2/27 - Friday 3/1. 🏆 Local racers from OMS will also be competing in this competition! There aren’t great viewing points for this one though, unless you can spy on them safely from Nor’Easter. When you see that Chief is closed, it’s for a good reason with racers training or competing. Cheer on your local racers!! 👏
